Meet the

Educators

Our wonderful Educators at Newcastle Community Preschool  have all been at the preschool between 1 and 11 years, providing ongoing continuity and stability for the preschool and it's families.  As such we have built strong relationships with our families who have attended Newcastle Community Preschool over the years.

Newcastle Community Preschool is supported by qualified educators holding either a Certificate 111 and Diploma in Children's Services  or Bachelor of Early Childhood teaching. We collectively hold between us many years of experience in the early childhood sector and as such we provide a strong and positive foundation for educating our children's strengths and interests to foster positive learning outcomes.

All Educators have an up-to-date training in First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis and have current working with children checks.

Cert 2 in Auslan
Monday to Friday

My name is Jessica, but most know me as Jess.

I have been part of Newcastle Community Preschool since 2009 and the Director of the Preschool for the past 5 years.

Over my 13 years in this profession I have had the opportunity to work in community-based services, long day cares and spent time over in the USA as an Au pair to 4 children.

One of my passions is in teaching children about their environment and the impact we can have on it, as they are the future of this world. My other passion is languages, I am currently studying Auslan and my desire is to become fluent and be able to communicate and work alongside with the Deaf community and in turn share and educate my love and passion with the children I care for.

To me there is no bigger reward than watching a child thrive in their environment, persist with challenges they are faced with and in the end, achieve great things.

Bachelor of Early Childhood Education & Care
Currently on Maternity Leave

My name is Sophie and I have a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education and Care which I obtained in 2018. I have over 8 years’ experience in early childhood, having worked in both long day care and preschool. In 2013 I became a part of the team at Newcastle Community Preschool and have enjoyed working in such a small community preschool.

I am passionate about providing inclusive education for all children, and developing their learning and skills through different teaching models and approaches. I believe the outdoor environment and providing a play-based program plays a significant role in children’s development and growth, and I am looking forward to incorporating my love for both with the children at our centre.

Wednesday

My name is Kylie and I have a Bachelor of Education, Early Childhood, which I obtained in 1993 from the University of Western Sydney. Over the past 26 years I have managed and worked within long day care and preschool services, with my passion being for the 3-5 year old age group. I began working in the Early Childhood sector in the Blue Mountains and after getting married and moving to Newcastle in 2010, I have continued to work in Preschool’s and Joined Newcastle Community Preschool in 2015.

I love being a part of the children’s learning and growth and I believe that by providing a warm, caring, respectful, and nurturing environment the children will thrive and develop to the best of their ability. Each year I look forward to building relationships with the children and families that come in to my care and I am blessed to be working in a Preschool that allows me to do that.

Educational Leader

My name is Alice, I have been working in Early Childhood Education for the past 14 years. I started in the sector by studying my Certificate 111. I quickly moved onto completing my diploma before engaging in further study to complete my Bachelor of Education (0-5) at Charles Sturt University. I have recently moved back to Newcastle after living in Sydney for over a decade.

I strongly believe that all children are capable learners who express their knowledge through one hundred languages. That children are individuals with unique abilities and learning styles, who hold their own perspective of the world around them. This individualized view of children’s learning drives the way I teach and how I plan for children’s development.

I am extremely passionate about inclusion and providing the best learning opportunities for all children. I also have a creative side and enjoy getting my hands dirty while engaging in art projects. I believe that art offers many forms of expression and encourage all children to share their knowledge through the arts.

I believe to be an effective teacher you need to be a co-constructor of knowledge alongside the children. This involves investigating and discovering with the children rather than imparting adult knowledge onto children. By creating a partnership of learning, children’s voices are valued and rich learning can occur.
